A head start into the future

The Humanities Pathway

About

The new Humanities Pathway is open to students entering the 11th grade. This unique program offers the coring of English, History and Art classes. Students in the Humanities Pathway will study and learn through hands on activities the correlations between these important subjects.

Our Mission Statement

Humanities at its fundamental level explores what it means to be human. Why is this important? In a culture that wishes to reduce humans down to what skill they can perform, what they can buy, or who they know, humanities reminds us of our identity as holistic human beings connected through our creativity and communal history. In the humanities curriculum, we seek to find meaningful connections between music, art, history and literature so as to help us understand ourselves and others. For instance, when we begin to understand that our love of hip-hop did not just come from waking up one day and choosing to love it, and when we notice how historical events, musical styles, artistic movements, philosophical trends, and personal stories converged to make hip hop what it is today, we begin to realize that we are part of something larger than ourselves. Through this pathway of courses, you will see connections between your history and English class, between your art and science class, and because of that, your learning will be more meaningful. By seeing and making connections, and by living connected lives, you will gain a deeper understanding of who you are as a human being.
